Remodeling Projects Improve Facilities and Grounds

You will not believe all the remodeling that has been completed in the past 8 months at camp. Last fall our staff met to determine our greatest remodeling needs and came up with a prioritized list of what was believed to be the top 9 projects. We set a budget of $125,000 and began tackling the kitchen and Dining Hall (top priority) on December 1, 2006. We worked extra hours, hired some professionals, and recruited some wonderful volunteers to begin checking item after item off our list. By the start of summer camp and $112,000 later, we had completed the vast majority of our list including a landscape beautification plan and the installation of 100 new building and directional signs throughout the camp. The complete list is far too extensive to post. All the main buildings and lodges have had their interiors renovated including the Upper Deck (Old Chapel). Every major building or lodge, except Tecumseh, has (thanks in big part to four summer SEEKer teams) received new exterior paint and trim. Lots of new things from kitchen equipment to toilets have been installed. Our labors paid off. Everything looks fresh and new. The only way to truly appreciate everything that has been accomplished is to come see if for yourself! Along with everything else, we were able to complete the construction of a new blob platform and our latest high ropes adventure, The Avalanche, which is a three person zip-line.
There is still some interior and exterior work to be completed on the Upper Deck and much more to be completed over the next few years. We anticipate jumping into several “new” projects we’d love to complete this year like building a picnic pavilion by the pool, constructing a pump and shower house at the pool, and installing road lights all the way to the ARC and to A-Frame 6. We would also like to see a new pavilion erected for our Alpha camp to replace the temporary tent system we currently use. These projects take time, money, and volunteer labor. We’d sure love to have you lend us a hand any way you can. We have just about exhausted our remodeling budget but with volunteer labor and $15,000 we could complete these new projects.
Great things are happening at Scioto Hills. We trust you and your family will take advantage of the ministry opportunities we provide in Christian Camping.
