Each summer, Scioto Hills hires college and high school students to serve on summer staff. These young people must have a growing passion for God and desire to be a part of a team that influences children, teens, and families for the sake of Christ. While being used to impact campers for His Kingdom, God transforms the staff to be more like Him.

Why Serve on Summer Staff?
There are a lot of ways to spend your summer: internships, seasonal jobs, time with friends, travel, or simply taking a break. Each of those can be good opportunities. But we believe serving on summer staff at Scioto Hills Christian Camp & Retreat Center is more than another option. It is an opportunity to grow, serve, have fun, and be part of something that can have an eternal impact.
We love our summer staff, and we have seen God use their summers in meaningful ways. Here are just a few reasons why serving at Scioto Hills could be the right next step for you.
Grow in Your Faith
Summer staff will stretch you physically, emotionally, and spiritually. You will face long days, real responsibility, and situations that push you beyond what you can accomplish on your own. In those moments, you will have the opportunity to experience God’s faithfulness in fresh ways.
Through chapel services, staff meetings, Bible studies, and everyday conversations, you will spend the summer grounded in God’s Word. You will learn what it looks like to depend on the Lord and serve alongside the body of Christ. As you invest in campers and fellow staff members, the Lord will continue to grow you in your own faith.

As believers, we are called to serve. We can serve the Lord wherever He places us, but there is something special about serving in the day-to-day work of camp ministry.
At Scioto Hills, you will have a front-row seat to see God work in the lives of campers. Whether you are leading an activity, serving a meal, cleaning a cabin, encouraging a homesick camper, or having a meaningful conversation, every role matters. God uses faithful servants to create an environment where campers can hear the gospel, build relationships, and grow in their walk with Christ.

Camp is a lot of fun. You will spend your days in God’s beautiful creation, play games, build friendships, laugh often, and make memories that will stay with you for years to come.
This season of life gives you a unique flexibility that may not always be available. Take advantage of it. Do something different. Serve somewhere that challenges you, encourages you, and gives you the chance to be part of a close-knit team.
One of our favorite things is watching staff members arrive as strangers and leave as family. At Scioto Hills, once you are family, you are always family.

To qualify for summer staff, you must:
Commit to serving at least the first 6 of the 9 weeks of summer programming
Complete an application, submit reference forms, and interview with a Scioto Hills Staff Member
Have a growing relationship with Christ and a desire to be part of a team that is clearly communicating the gospel of Christ
Be 16-24 years old

support and pay:
Serving as a team member on summer staff is a mission experience. It is essential that staff have the support of family and friends because prayer is necessary. Additionally, summer staff are asked to raise financial support. Money donated in honor of a staff member enables Scioto Hills to keep camper costs down. Nevertheless, whether staff members raise any support or not, they are guaranteed the following amount:
$175/week for high school students
$200/week for returning high school students
$250/week for graduated high school students
$350/week for college students
$400/week for returning college students
BONUS INCENTIVEs FOR 2026:
Applicants who have successfully completed the application process by January 2nd, have been interviewed and hired by January 31st shall receive a $300 bonus.
Applicants who apply by April 2nd, are hired, and complete all of the pre-summer requirements by May 2nd shall receive a $200 bonus.
Those who serve as the primary recruiter of a first time summer staffer who is hired as a Cabin Counselor shall receive a $300 cash bonus or scholarship to the school of their choice. Note: The new hire must clearly indicate who recruited them in their interview. The recruiter must also be hired for Summer 2026, or must have been on summer staff in 2024-2025.
Summer staffers who commit to serving the full 9 week summer program will be given a $200 (college) or $100 (high school) bonus.
Those who are invited to and choose to serve for the 10th week will receive their normal weekly pay for that final week.
